Remarks
- Systematics: Podsiadlo (1990) and Stumpf & Lambdin (2006) considerd Asterodiaspis quercicola to be synonyms of Asterodiaspis variolosa, but this was not accepted by Ben-Dov (2006) and Giliomee & Kozár (2008). We have decided to keep them separate until more studies have been done.
- Structure: In life, body of adult female nearly circular, slightly to distinctly convex dorsally, with posterior end flattened; usually greenish, sometimes brownish yellow; test transparent and often shiny. Slide-mounted adult female body nearly circular, posterior end sometimes slightly produced. Antennae each thimble-shaped, bearing 2 setae nearly as long as diameter of antenna. Anal lobes not developed; apex of abdomen with 1 pair of long setae. Anal opening situated on dorsal surface, with margin sclerotized, bearing 2 setae on anterior edge (Moghaddam & Watson 2024).
- Biology: Adult females live on bark, in shallow or deep pits (Moghaddam & Watson 2024).
- Economic Importance: Gill (1993) indicated that it could be detrimental to oaks in California.
- General Remarks: Description and illustration of adult female by Russell (1941). Ferris (1955a) and by Gill (1993). Test of female, male and nymph described and illustrated by Russell (1941).
