Remarks
- Systematics: GenBank accession numbers GQ424972, DQ145307 and DQ145419 were previously determined to be Chionaspis salicis, but Normark, et al., 2019, referred these numbers to Quernaspis lepineyi.. on the basis of molecular characters, morphology, and host association.
- Structure: Test of female pear-shaped, grayish white, 1.6-2.1mm long. Adult female spindle-shaped, red (Kosztarab & Kozár, 1988). Slide-mounted adult female fusiform, completely membranous; free abdominal segments with lateral lobes developed. Antennae each with 1 long seta. Anterior spiracles each associated with 3–5 disc pores; posterior spiracles each associated with 2 or 3 pores. Pygidium with 2 pairs of lobes; median lobes (L1) joined at base by basal sclerosis, the space between extremely narrow, each lobe with rounded apex and 1 notch on lateral side. Second lobes (L2) smaller than L1, each with rounded apex and claviform paraphysis at outer basal corner. Male scale cover smaller than that of female. (Moghaddam & Watson, 2021)
- Biology: Male tests commonly found in large white patches on infested trees. This bisexual species has one generation per year that overwinters as adult females. Each female lays about 60 eggs during the second half of May, and crawlers emerge in June (Kosztarab & Kozár, 1988).
- General Remarks: Detailed descriptions and illustrations by Balachowsky (1928c and 1954e).
