Remarks
- Systematics: Aonidiella comperei is similar to A. orientalis, but differs (A. orientalis in parentheses): (i) prosomatic lobes well developed (weakly developed), (ii) no rows or clusters of dorsal ducts on either side of the abdominal submargin (one to three), (iii) ducts on the lateral side of the dorsum on prepygidial abdominal segments absent (present), (iv) plates lateral to the third lobe fringed (not fringed, each with one long fleshy process, and (v) two distinguishable perivulvar pore clusters (five).
- Structure: Scale of female smooth, circular, flat, yellow, hard, and brittle, 1.5 to 1.75 mm. in diameter. Scale of male not identified (McKenzie, 1937). It turns orange and becomes sclerotized at maturity. The female has two nymphal instars, all of them slightly darker than the adult female.
- Biology: Occurring on the leaves, twigs, and larger branches (McKenzie, 1937).
- Economic Importance: This is a polyphagous species, that has been recorded from South Pacific, Far East and Central America (see Distribution and Host Plants) but it was not considered a pest.
- General Remarks: Description and illustration of adult female by McKenzie (1937), Balachowsky (1958b), Velasquez (1971), Chou (1985, 1986), Williams & Watson (1988) and by Colon-Ferrer & Medina-Gaud (1998).
