Systematics: Pellizzari and Fontana determined that the species exhibited morphological characters that excluded it from Lecanodiaspis, the presence of two spiracular conical setae set far apart, tibia and tarsus fused together, absence of the dorsal row of preopercular pores in the adult female, and the absence of the typical marginal minaret-like setae in the 1st instar. They transferred the species to the genus Membranaria in 2002. (Pellizzari & Fontana, 2002)
