Weng, W.S., & Huang, Y.Q. 1988 [A preliminary study on a predacious insect, Brumoides lineatus (Weise).]. Insect Knowledge 25(2): 105-108.

Notes: Brumoides lineatus, a predator of Aphis glycines, Planococcus citri and other insect pests, was studied in the laboratory and field in China in 1980-82. The morphology of the adult, egg, larva and nymph is described and illustrated. The coccinellid had 1-4 generations a year and overwintered in the adult stage on weeds near to streams and ponds or on the ridges of fields. The predator became active in March and oviposition occurred mainly in mid-April to mid-August. Female laid an average of 48.6, 180.5 and 507 eggs in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations, respectively. At a daily mean temperature of 26.6øC and a relative humidity of 84.7%, the egg stage was completed in 8.45 days, the larval stage in 12.93 days and the pupal stage in 8.45 days. The adult lifespan of the 1st and 3rd generation was 159 days, while that of the overwintering generation was 297 days. Adults emerged at night and copulated many times 3-8 days after emergence. The consumption of individuals of the aphid Longiunguis sacchari, Melanaphis sacchari by adult females of the predator was 10-28/day (an average of 17/day), while that of larvae was 74.6-174.9/day.
