Ray, C.H. 1982 . Revision of the Genus Matsucoccus (Homoptera: Coccoidea: Margarodidae) in North America. Auburn University, Ph.D. thesis. Auburn, Alabama 295 pp.

Notes: [Ph.D. thesis.] Morphological descriptions of the adult females of all species of Matsucoccus in North America, including 15 previously described and 4 new species, are presented. Illustrations of the insects are provided, measurements of various morphological characters are presented, and a key for the separation of North American species of Matsucoccus is given. A literature review is provided, and notes on biology, economic importance, hosts, distribution, and other stages are included for each species. A cladogram based on 8 synapomorphic characters is presented. Six species groups are delineated and the characters used in determining the groups are discussed. The distributions, biology, host plant relationships, and possible factors responsible for the distribution of each group are discussed. Pleistocene glaciation is judged to be the primary factor responsible for present distribution.
