[Preliminary study of some insect and mite pests of cassava crops, Manihot esculenta Crantz, in Zulia, Venezuela.]. Revista de la Facultad de Agronomía, Universidad Central de Venezuela 161-195.
Notes: A survey of the insects and mites associated with cassava crops in Zulia State, Venezuela, was carried out between April 1972 and September 1973. An annotated list is presented of the 18 phytophagous species collected, with information on their morphology, injuriousness and economic importance. The 11 species of natural enemies observed during the survey are also listed, with the host or prey species concerned. Information from the literature on arthropods pests of cassava is reviewed. It appears that in Zulia, the principal pests are Chilomima clarkei (Amsel), Mononychellus tanajoa (Bondar) (caribbeanae (McG.)) and Tetranychus spp. Among the species listed in a table are Aonidiella sp., Aspidiotus sp., Pseudococcus sp. and Saissetia nigra.
