Notes: A. destructor can easily be destroyed when the coconuts are young by chemical treatments. On older trees two species of Chilocorus are usually sufficient to keep the scale populations to an acceptable level. However, the ant Oecophylla which frequently infests the coconut crowns can, by destroying the coccinella larvae, cause swarming of the scales. Nevertheless, it is not desirable to destroy these ants, as they can play a part in regulating other pests. But while their presence is a factor in the pest-predator imbalance, it is not sufficient in itself. The role in the dynamic of the Aspidiotus populations; deficiencies, especially in potassium, may favour swarming of the scales.
