Grout, T.G., & Richards, G.I. 1991a Value of pheromone traps for predicting infestations of red scale, Aonidiella aurantii (Maskell) (Hom., Diaspididae), limited by natural enemy activity and insecticides used to control citrus thrips, Scirtothrips aurantii Faure (Thys., Thripidae).. Journal of Applied Entomology 111: 20-27.

Notes: Summary/abstract in: German. Abstract: Aonidiella aurantii males and several of its Aphytis parasitoid species were monitored using sticky yellow card traps in Citrus sinensis orchards; in Israel, citrus thrips does not occur, chemical treatments are not used as much, and red scale parasitoids would probably be more stable and allow some degree of prediction; traps can be used best in South Africa for indicating presence of red scale in the tops of trees, early indication of relative population densities in different orchards, timing releases of A. melinus, timing insecticide applications, and controlling red scale by mating disruption. Keywords: males; biological control.
