Remarks
- Systematics: Subfamily Xanthophthalminae Ferris (Normark et al. 2025) urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:EF0D0EB7-84F4-4458-80BC-B353839CC0DF
Aysenaspis is most similar to Xanthophthalma, which it resembles in having: minute, short ducts that are 8-shaped at the internal end, on both dorsum and venter; all 8 abdominal segments free, with indentations in the body margin between segments V-VIII; scale cover consisting almost entirely of exuviae, with just a thin crust of wax along the margin; and complete absence of lobes, gland spines, gland tubercles, and plates.
Aysenaspis differs from Xanthophthalma in having: pores by the anterior and posterior spiracles (pores absent in Xanthophthalma) and multisetose antennae (antennae unisetose in
Xanthophthalma).
- Structure: Scale cover consisting mainly of exuviae of second instar. Slide-mounted adult female without gland spines,
gland tubercles, plates, or sclerotized lobes; with 8 free abdominal segments, none fused; dorsal ducts 8-shaped at internal end, minute; antenna with 4 setae; quinquelocular pores present near anterior spiracles.
- General Remarks: Detailed description and illustrations in Normark, et al., 2025.
