Remarks
- Systematics: Subfamily ASPIDIOTINAE Tribe AONIDIINI (Normark, et al., 2019)
Pseudaonidia Cockerell differs from Duplaspidiotus MacGillivray by the absence of marginal paraphyses on the pygidium (Balachowsky, 1958b).
Normark, et al., 2019 determined that Pseudaonidia is not a monophyletic genus. The 5 sampled species of Pseudaonidia are scattered in 3 places across the Aonidiini—the type species, P. duplex (Maskell), forms a clade with P. trilobitiformis (Green) and P. paeoniae (Cockerell). If
Pseudaonidia is interpreted as paraphyletic, it includes the type species of Eulaingia Brimblecombe and Neomorgania MacGillivray, along with species assigned to Myrtophila Brimblecombe, Diaphoraspis Brimblecombe, Mimeraspis Brimblecombe, Gomphaspidiotus Borchsenius & Williams, Achorophora Brimblecombe and Parrottia MacGillivray.
- Structure: Female scale circular, slightly convex, exuviae subcentral or central. Body with a deep constriction between prothorax and mesothorax. Derm remaining membraneous except pygidium. Dorsum of pygidium with an area of reticulation. Dorsum of pygidium with an area of reticulation. Male scale elongate oval, exuviae at one end.
- General Remarks: Definition and characters by Marlatt (1908), Robinson (1917), Brain (1919), Fullaway (1932), Kuwana (1933), Ferris (1938a), Borchsenius (1950b), Lupo (1953), Balachowsky (1951, 1958b), Almeida (1969), Takagi (1969a), Danzig (1993) and by Kosztarab (1996).
