Remarks
- Systematics: In his paper on the cytogenetics of Jansenus burgeri, Gavrilov-Zimin (2017) questions the taxonomic placement of Kuwania oligostigma. He states that the morphology of K. oligostigma is significantly different from that of other species of the genus and other genera of the tribe, and according to the original morphological description and provided figure in De Lotto (1959), Kuwania oligostigma has lost the abdominal spiracles and has tubular ducts in contrast to all other Kuwaninii. However, As it possesses the other characteristics of the family, it has been left in Kuwania pending further research. (Watson, 2022)
- Structure: Live adult female naked, deeply sunk in the bark of the host plant; colour evenly dark pink (De Lotto, 1959a).
- Biology: Kuwaniids are found on or under tree bark. Immature cyst stages, often brightly coloured, live in cracks in the trunk or under the bark. Adult females of most species produce a white waxy ovisac that covers the body; males and females of some species appear on the bark in autumn. However, live adult females of K. oligostigma live deep in the bark of the host plant and are naked of wax secretions; in life, the body colour is an even, dark pink. (Watson, 2022)
- Economic Importance: None in Africa.
- General Remarks: Description and illustration of adult female by De Lotto (1959a).
