Remarks

• Systematics: Subfamily ASPIDIOTINAE Tribe AONIDIINI (Normark, et al., 2019) This rank was raised from the subtribe Aonidiina. (Williams, 2020) Normark, et al., 2019 determined that Aonidia was not a monophyletic genus, and that Targionidea was a junior synonym of Melanaspis and not a synonym of Aonidia.

  The genus Aonidia includes 31 pupillarial species. It is related to Cryptaspidiotus Lindinger, differring from the latter in that the diameter of anal opening equals the width of the median lobes, whereas in species of Cryptaspidiotus it is about 1/5 of width of the median lobes.
