Remarks
- Systematics: Subfamily: Coccinae A, Pulvinarini (Choi & Lee, 2019) As compared with the other Pulvinaria species found in Japan, P. nishigaharae is more similar to the type species of the genus Saissetia, Saissetia coffeae (Walker, 1852), and the other Saissetia species occurring in Japan in the distribution of the ventral tubular ducts. However, P. nishigaharae is easily distinguishable from those Saissetia species by the lack of discal setae on the anal plates, and also of an H-line ridge on the dorsum, and, in vivo, by the bright yellow color of the mature adult female.
- Structure: Colour photograph in Kawai (1980, Figs. 6.39, a,b). Pre-reproductive adult female: Body elongate-oval, broadest from thorax to abdomen. Dorsum yellow with dark spots. Mature adult female: Body nearly round, broadest on thorax and anterior abdomen, slightly convex. Dorsum pale yellow; no ovisac produced. Post-ovipositing females sclerotized and not shrunken. Slide mounted specimens elongate-oval, 3.0–4.8 mm long, 2.2–4.2 mm wide, margin with a shallow indentation at each stigmatic cleft; anal cleft about 1/6–1/8 body length. (Tanaka, 2015)
