Remarks
- Systematics: Phyllococcus oahuensis was considered to be extinct by Moir (2021), but a population was found on Maui in 2007 and the leaf galls were photographed by Dr Karl Magnacca [on Urera glabra, 8/?/2007, Kahanaiki Gulch below Puu Kukui cabins, Maui, Hawaii]. Subsequently, the species was collected in 2012 (Percy, Watson & Hodgson, 2024)
- Structure: Adult female viviparous, of a dirty lemon color, slightly covered with white secretion. Living in cone-shaped galls. Antennae with seven asymmetrically formed joints. Legs short and stout, resembling crabs' claws. Anal region strongly chitinous. Anal ring with six hairs. (Ehrhorn, 1916) Slide mounted male macropterous; quite small, total body length about 1.23 mm. antennae long, about half total body length (about 665 μm long), with long fleshy setae (fs), each as long as or longer than width of antennal segments; body with few setae, all hair-like (hs), fleshy setae (fs) apparently absent from body (Percy, Watson & Hodgson, 2024)
- Biology: Forming galls on the leaves of Urera glabra and U. sandwicensis (Beardsley, 1984). The Hawaiian mealybugs Phyllococcus oahuensis (Ehrhorn) and Clavicoccus erinaceus Ferris were known from mountains on the islands, and are now consiedered extinct. (Moir, 2020)
- General Remarks: Good description and illustration of the adult female given by Ferris in Zimmerman (1948). Good description and illustration of the adult male given by Beardsley (1960). Redescription, photographs and illustrations in Percy, Watson & Hodgson, 2024.
