Remarks
- Systematics: Gavrilov-Zimin (2018), studied two specimens of Phenacoleachia australis and Phenacoleachia zealandica and decided that there were no distinct diagnostic characters separating the two species. He also noted the variation among males in the large collection of P. zealandica in Gullan & Cook, 2001. Based on this data, he made P. australis a junior synonym of P. zealandica.
- Structure: Adult female is red or reddish brown and excretes a white meal and cotton and some long curling coarse yellow threads. First instars are yellowish red covered with white meal and are active. Adult male is red or reddish yellow, large and covered with much white meal (Maskell, 1891).
- General Remarks: Original description and illustration by Maskell (1891). Brown & Cleveland (1968) discuss the chromosome number of the species.
