Remarks
- Systematics: After reviewing the type series of M. rubida and syntypes of M. elongata Danzig & Gavrilov-Zimin (2015) did not see any discrete differences between these two species, stating that the "differences noted by Borchsenius (the quantity of multilocular pores and presence absence of circulus) lie in the frames of usual individual and geographical variability of mealybugs" They determined that M. elongata was a synonym of M. rubida.
- Structure: Female body elongate, up to 3 mm long, crimson in life. Antennae 7-segmented. Legs thin; hind coxae with translucent pores. Anal apparatus simplified, with very thin anal ring, several pores on each side and 6 short setae on the anal ring; prinulae absent. Two pairs of ostioles present. Circulus usually absent. (Danzig & Gavrilov-Zimin, 2015)
- General Remarks: Description and illustration of adult female by Gavrilov (2007). Description of the adult female given by Borchsenius (1949) and by Tang (1992). Good description of the adult female of the junior synonym, M. elongata, given by Borchsenius (1949) and by Kosztarab & Kozár (1988F).
