Remarks
- Structure: Female scale greyish or ochreous white, opaque; circular or broadly ovate, diameter 1.7-2 mm; moderately convex; exuviae eccentric, often situated close to anterior margin, bright orange-red; concealed in fresh examples but exposed later (Green, 1934a). The scale of the female is quite flat, circular, white, with the subcentral exuviae yellow. Scale of the male almost as large as that of the female, somewhat elongate white (Ferris, 1943a). Female scale reddish orange, circular or subcircular, dark grey or dark brown with red-orange exuviae. Male scale reddish orange, similar to that of female but more translucent. Microscopic diagnosis: Slide-mounted adult female pyriform; prosoma sclerotised at maturity. Pygidium with 3 pairs of well-developed lobes. Median lobes (L1) large, slightly convergent, variable in form, each lobe subrectangular or slightly rounded apically, sometimes with 1 notch on outer margin. Second lobes (L2) convergent, same form as median lobes, each lobe with 1 notch on outer margin, or absent. Third lobes (L3) small, each lobe denticulate on outer margin. Plates absent or only present in some individuals, very short, spiniform, situated between median lobes. Paraphyses well-developed, present between L1 & L2. Dorsal ducts numerous. (Moghaddam & Watson, 2021)
- Economic Importance: This species is a pest of Populus spp. in Central Asia (Archangelskaya, 1937; Balachowsky, 1950b; Schmutterer et al., 1957).
