Remarks
- Structure: Scale of the female is flat, more or less circular, translucent, frequently having the appearance of oiled paper, dirty gray or gray yellow. Exuviae red or brown, frequently eccentric. Scale of the male smaller, more elongate, clearer, sometimes whitish (Rungs, 1937).
- Economic Importance: Apparently imported from the Mediterranean onto the D'Orrigo Ranch in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California, USA, where it was collected on common fig in 1939. Probably no longer present in California (Gill, 1997). Diaspidiotus braunschvigi has been found on drought-stressed fig trees in Fars province, Estahaban, Iran since 1987. In recent years, a severe and prolonged drought has persisted in this area, forcing the fig farmers to abandon the traditional rain-fed harvests and manually irrigate their orchards, leading to climatic changes and increased severity of fig tree infestation by D. braunschvigi. The scale occurs on the leaves, twigs and fruits. (Moghaddam & Watson, 2021)
- General Remarks: Description and illustration of adult female by Ferris (1942), Balachowsky (1950b), McKenzie (1956) and by Gill (1997).
