Remarks
- Systematics: In Green 1909a, he stated that the part of the specimens that he had designated as Planchonia miliaris longa in 1896 were not a subspecies of Asterolecanium miliaris. He redescribed them as a new species Asterolecanium lineare sp. nov. and stated that this species "differs from A. miliaris by the proportionately narrower and more elongate tests of the female, by the simpler and more obscure fringe, and by the paucity and obscureness of the marginal 8-shaped spinnerets." (Green, 1909a), Russell (1941) realized that the other misidentified specimens were the same as ,Asterolecanium miliaris robustum, and she revived the older name, Asterolecanium longum as the valid name of this species.
- Structure: The adult males of B. longa belong to the group of asterolecaniid males that have some very long setae on their antennae. It differs from the others in having the following combination of character-states: (i) themembranous area of scutum with reticulations, and (ii) a penial sheath several times longer than basal width. (Hodgson, 2020)
- General Remarks: Description and illustration of adult female by Russell (1941).
Although this species was reported as occurring in Florida by Merrill and Chaffin (1923), the identification of the specimens was probably based on the description in Green (1915), a misidentification of Bambusaspis robusta.discovered by Russell (1941). It has not been reported in Florida since that time.
