Yasnosh, V.A. 1979 [Diet specialization in chalcids of the family Aphelinidae (Hymenoptera, Chalcidoidea).]. Entomologicheskoe Obozrenye 58(4): 751-761.

Notes: The list of 42 aphelinid genera of the world fauna is presented with datat on their hosts. Peculiarities and trends of parasitic specialization of the family are discussed. Aphelinids are highly specialized parasites of Homoptera, mainly coccids, aphids and aleurodids. In some genera there is a tendency to parasitism on insects from other orders, resembling their common hosts in habits. The main trend of evolution of Aphelinidae is adaptation to parasitism on small, mostly unmoving colonial insects. The high level of their specialization is important in using aphelinids for (biological) control. (Other hosts considered are Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera and Orthoptera.)
