Wu, S.A., Nan, N., & Lu, Y. 2010 Phenacoccus madeirensis (Hemiptera: Coccoidea: Pseudococcidae), a Newly Invasive Mealybug in Mainland China. Entomotaxonomia 32:8-12
Notes: Phenacoccus madeirensis (Hemiptera: Coccoidea: Pseudococcidae) originated from Central and South America (Miller et al., 2002). In the Far East it has only been recorded from Japan, in three Palaeartic districts and on one island in the Oriental region. Williams (2004) gave the distribution in soughtern Asia as Pakistan, Philippines and Vietnam. Yeh (2006) published the first record of this species from Taiwan. In this paper we identify specimens from Hainan Island, China, collected in April 2009 on Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. This is the first record of P. madeirensis from the Democratic Peoples' Republic of China. The external characters, host plants, distribution, biology and economic importance of P. madeirensis are discussed.
