Ware, A.B., & Pasques, B.P. 1996 Aphytis augmentation in the southern African Lowveld.. Proceedings of the International Society of Citriculture I: 511-514.

Notes: [VIII International Citrus Congress, 12-17 May 1996, Sun City, South Africa.] Augmentative releases of Aphytis in the southern African Lowveld region in 1994/5 appeared to successfully control armoured red scale (Aonidiella aurantii (Mask.) populations However, it was not possible to determine the contribution that the naturally-occurring Aphytis may have had. No augmentation was made the following season and in all but one orchard the red scale was controlled naturally. Interference by ants was the probable cause of the single failure. The conclusion drawn was that augmentation was not generally necessary in the mild winter Lowveld areas. However, where chemical intervention had disrupted the natural population, augmentation may help in re-establishing the Aphytis populations.
