Notes: This scale species is now seen in almost all the cane growing areas of coastal Andhra Pradesh and has assumed serious proportions in some districts, causing heavy losses to the sugarcane grower and to the sugar industry. Control of the pest presents a difficult problem as the insect is concealed under the leaf sheath on the stem and the incidence intensifies devastatingly during the monsoon period and when the crop growth does not permit application of any insecticides.
