Tomkins, A.R., Greaves, A.J., Wilson, D.J., & Thomson, C. 1996 Evaluation of a mineral oil for pest control on kiwifruit.. Proceedings of the Forty Ninth New Zealand Plant Protection Conference, Quality Hotel Rutherford, Nelson, New Zealand, 13-15 August, 1996. New Zealand Plant Protection Society Rotorua, New Zealand
Notes: A field trial in 1991/92 near Paeroa, New Zealand, evaluated the efficacy of a mineral oil used at concentrations of 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0% against insects and mites in a season-long programme on kiwifruits. Other treatments included phosmet or were unsprayed. Infestation on leaves and fruit by armoured scale insects (Diaspididae) was reduced by all oil treatments, but only the 2.0% rate gave control equivalent to the phosmet programme. Oil treatments reduced fruit damage and infestation by larvae but not to a commercially acceptable level.
