Su, T.H., & Wang, C.M. 1988 [Life history and control measures of the citrus mealybug and the latania scale insects on grapevine.]. Plant Protection Bulletin. Taipei 30(3): 279-288.

Notes: Two species of scale insects, the citrus mealybug, Planococcus citri (Risso), and the latania scale, Hemiberlesia lantaniae (Signoret) were found infesting grapevine in Taiwan. The citrus mealybug was reared on the leaves of Gardenia augusta (Merr.) and the life history were observed in a screen-house in winter at Taichung and in the growth chamber (25 degree C, 65% R. H.). Longevity of the female and the male in the screen-house were 120.1 and 58.3 days, respectively. The latania scale was reared on pumpkin and the life history was observed in the screen-house in winter and spring, and in the growth chamber (25 degree C, 65% R. H.). Results showed that longevity was 123.4, 96.3 and 78.0 days, respectively and that both species were able to develop in winter in central Taiwan. Various insecticides were tested for control of these two species in laboratory and field trails. Treatments with 40% Supracide or 44% Dimethoate in early spring, just before leaves emerge on the grapevine, were effective fdor control.
