Notes: The possibility of using synthetic sex pheromones for monitoring the Comstock mealybug [Pseudococcus comstocki] in orchards in the Moldavian SSR, USSR, was investigated from 1982 to 1985. The most effective compound tested during this period was 2,6-dimethyl-1,5-heptadien-3-ol acetate at a rate of 200 æg/trap, with traps placed at a height of 1.5-2 m above ground level. Daily and seasonal flight dynamics were monitored successfully using pheromone traps, and new foci of infestation could be detected.
