Samways, M.J., Nel, M., & Prins, A.J. 1982 Ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) foraging in citrus trees and attending honeydew-producing Homoptera.. Phytophylactica 14: 155-157.
Notes: Control of certain ant species such as Anoplolepis custodiens and Pheidole megacephala is essential for the biological control of Aonidiella aurantii. The ants attend softs cales and disturb the parasites of red scale, thus allowing its population to increase. This study surveys ant species on farms throughout South Africa and their behaviors associated with A. aurantii.
