Salas, H., Macián, A., Casmuz, A., & Medina, S. 2004 Control de cochinilla roja australiana con aceite emulsivo. [Control of the Australian red cochineal with oil emulsion.]. Avance Agroindustrial 25(4): 22-23.
Notes: Investigations were conducted to study the effect of the traditional method of control of the Australian red cochineal (Aonidiella aurantii) with one spring application of chlorpyrifos 0.1% and a summer application of 1% mineral oil compared with two applications of 1% mineral oil (spring and summer). Field trials were carried out in two localities of Tucuman, Argentina, during 2002-03 on 10-year-old lemon trees. Data are tabulated on percentage of fruits obtained from different trials. Evidence was obtained that both treatments resulted in similar pest control and fruit yield. It is concluded that two applications of 1% mineral oil can be a valid alternative to use of chlorpyrifos as a method less harmful to the environment.
