Roberts, P., & Seabrook, W.A. 1989 A relationship between black rats (Rattus rattus), Seychelles fruit bats (Pteropus seychellensis aldabrensis) and the coccoid (Icerya seychellarum) (Insects, Homoptera) on Aldabra Atoll, Seychelles.. Journal of Zoology (London) 218(2): 332-334.
Notes: Seychelles fruit bats (Pteropus seychellensis aldabrensis) and black rats (Rattus rattus) were observed feeding on honeydew exuded by individuals of the margarodid Icerya seychellarum infesting a fig tree. The possible importance of honeydew as a source of protein for these mammals is discussed and the possible effects of this feeding behaviour on the introduced and coccoid pest and its impact on the flora of Aldabra is considered.
