Notes: Details are given of the biology, harmfulness and control of the California scale [Quadraspidiotus perniciosus] in orchards in the southern steppe of the Ukrainian SSR, USSR. Of numerous preparations tested against tortricids and other pests in 1984-86, phosalone at 3 kg/ha, metaphos [parathion-methyl] at 1.5 kg/ha and Decis [deltamethrin] at 0.6 kg/ha were highly effective against Q. perniciosus.
