Prokopenko, A.I., & Mokrousova, L.A. 1981 [Scutellista against the Japanese wax scale]. Zashchita rastenii. Moscow (No. 12): 43.

Notes: The Japanese wax scale (Ceroplastes japonicus Green) is an important pest of Citrus and other subtropical crops in the USSR and is subject to quarantine measures to prevent spread. In 1978, the parasite Scutellista cyanea Motsch. was introduced from France for its control. The parasite was reared in the laboratory in Abkhazia and was found to have four generations between June and December, each being reared on different suitable hosts at various temperatures. During 1978-80, the parasite was released in the field with immediate success, up to 62% parasitism of Ceroplastes japonicus being obtained. The parasite survived the winter, when the temperature fell to -4 deg C, and could be reared on a variety of hosts throughout the year. It is concluded that the parasite can survive in Abkhazia provided a suitable winter host is available.
