Notes: ABSTRACT: A list of the scale insects recorded in Italy until 2003 is presented. At present, the number of scale insects known in Italy has reached 390 and the Italian scale insect fauna takes its place among the best known faunas in the world. The species belong to 14 families, the most numerous of which are the Pseudococcidae (136 species), Diaspididae (122 species), Coccidae (62 species), and the Eriococcidae (29 species). Information on distribution of each species, the number of introduced or intercepted exotic species and interesting new records are given.
