Palandzyhan, V.A., & Oganyan, K.L. 1989 [Structural changes in the tissues of the branches of peach infested by the globose scale (Sphaerolecanium prunastri) Fonse.]. Biologicheskii Zhurnal Armenii 42(8): 781-783.

Notes: A histological study of the effect of feeding by Sphaerolecanium prunastri on peach in Armenia showed that the insect fed on two types of structural elements: the cribriform cells of the phloem, and also the cells of the radial parenchyma both of the phloem and also of wood of the previous year's growth. The cytoplasm in these directly adjoining zones is of similar biochemical composition. Removal of plastic substances from the living cells and their inactivation results in interrupted transmission of organic substances, impeded vertical and diametrical growth of branches and reduced resistance to adverse climatic conditions. The branches gradually dry out.
