Osburn, M.R., & Mathis, W. 1946 Effect of cultivation on Florida red scale populations.. Journal of Economic Entomology 39(5): 571-574.

Notes: A comparison has been made of the numbers of Florida red scale, Chrysomphalus aonidum (L.), found on orange trees growing in plots not under cultivation in the same grove. There were markedly greater scale infestations on trees growing under cultivation than on uncultivated trees. It was concluded that tree stimulation, a result of cultivation, was the most important factor in the development of scale infestations.
