Orphanides, G.M. 1988 Current status of biological control of the black scale, Saissetia oleae (Olivier), in Cyprus.. Technical Bulletin (Agricultural Research Institute, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Nicosia, Cyprus) 100: 8 pp.
Notes: The black scale recently became a significant pest of olive in some localities of Cyprus. A survey of its natural enemies revealed eighteen parasitic and predatory insects, of which Scutellista cyanea. Metaphycus lounsburyi, M. flavus and Chilocorus bipustulatus were the most abundant. Chrysoperla carnea, Exochomus muelleri and Eublemma cyanea were less common. The seasonal activity and the population trend of the most abundant natural enemies were studied and ways for a possible increase in the effectiveness of biological control of the black scale are discussed.
