Versailles, 16-20 novembre 1981.] Synthesis of some insect sex pheromones is difficult owing to the high degree of sterochemical purity required in the double bond. The process of carbocupration recently discovered by J.F. Normant, which is described, permits the production of olefins with a high degree of purity. The ways in which it was used to synthesize the sex pheromones of Quadraspidiotus perniciosus, among others, are shown in the form of structural formulae.
