Notes: Reasons for an increase in the spread of locust species, particularly the Italian [Calliptamus italicus] and the Asian locust, and a decrease in the danger of the beet webworm [Loxostege sticticalis] on crops, including sugarbeet, sunflower and perennial grasses, in southern Russia are considered. The occurrence of mouse-like rodents and San Jose scale [Diaspidiotus perniciosus], and the volume of pesticide use are outlined. Damage caused by the most important disease of winter cereals, i.e. Septoria, is considered.
