Notes: Problems encountered during the practical introduction of biological control methods against pests in the southwest of the German Federal Republic are discussed. The methods involved the use of Prospaltella perniciosi [Encarsia perniciosi] for control of the San Jose scale [Quadraspidiotus perniciosus] on fruit trees, E. formosa against aleyrodids and Phytoseiulus persimilis against tetranychids [in greenhouses], and Trichogramma evanescens against the European corn borer [Ostrinia nubilalis] on maize. Problems are considered under 5 headings: financial support, problems inherent in classical methods, problems on the advisory level, commercial production, and collaboration with farmers. Proposals are made for improvements.
