Mzhavanadze, V.I. 1984 [Cryptolaemus against the camellia scale]. Zashchita rastenii. Moscow (No. 7): 26.

Notes: The use of Cryptolaemus (montrouzieri Muls.) for the biological control of the camellia scale (Chloropulvinaria floccifera (Westw.)) on tea in the Black Sea region of the USSR in 1978-82 is reviewed. Adults of the predator were twice as effective as larvae against the pest. When 5000 adults were released per hectare, infestation fell from 2.6 to 0.8 (on a numerical scale of 5), while the release of 20 000 1st- and 2nd-instar larvae per hectare resulted in a reduction to 1.4. A release of 5000 adults is therefore recommended at the beginning of the oviposition period of C. floccifera.
