Moran, V.C., & Zimmermann, H.G. 1984 The biological control of cactus weeds: achievements and prospects.. Biocontrol News and Information 5(4): 297-320.

Notes: Summary tables provide the names, origins and countries of introduction of the 46 species of Cactaceae that have become problem weeds, the names of the 65 species of insects and mites introduced for biological control of Cactaceae, the countries of origin and introduction of the 21 successfully established biocontrol agents and their target weeds, and estimates of success achieved in each case. The cochineal insects (Dactylopiidae), especially Dactylopius opuntiae and D. ceylonicus, have contributed by far the most to the biological control of Cactaceae, worldwide. The carmine-producing cochineal insect, Dactylopius coccus is also mentioned.
