Notes: Porphyrophora hamelii, a cochineal-producing margarodid scale, is endemic in the Ararat Plain in the Armenian SSR, USSR. An account is given of its biology and distribution, and possible ways of maintaining a colony. The life cycle, morphology and habits of the insect and the structure and development of the sexual systems in the male and female are described. Pairing, insemination and fertilization occupy a further chapter, which leads to a discussion of oviposition and fecundity.
