Misra, M.P., & Pawar, A.D. 1980 Biocontrol trials against the sugarcane scale insect, Melanaspis glomerata (Green) in eastern Uttar Pradesh.. Biological Control of Sugarcane Pests in India. The Tamilnadu State Federation of Co-Operative Sugar Factories, Ltd. Madras 84 pp.
Notes: Melanaspis glomerata annually causes substantial damage to the sugarcane crop in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Normally the attack is serious in ratoon fields (30%-50%) compared to plant crops. Probable causes are the water-logged conditions due to high rainfall and the network of irrigation canals resulting in high humidity in the area. Similar conditions exist in other parts of the country as well where M. glomerata is a problem. Four species of predators are discussed.
