Notes: Original slide preparations of the armoured scale insect Diaspis coccois made by J. Lichtenstein have been remounted and a lectotype designated. The species is discussed and compared with Diaspis boisduvalii Signoret and a review of the pertinent literature is included. Although no definite conclusions can be made about the synonymy of the species, there is a possibility that proposed DNA work might help to clarify whether the species are identical or not.
