Martirosov, A.A. 1974 The tactics of controlling Comstock's mealybug.. Zashchita rastenii No. 7: pp. 43.
Notes: The writer takes issue with recent authors in the Soviet Union who claim that Comstock's mealybug [Pseudococcus comstocki (Kuw.)] can be controlled by means of the release of natural enemies such as parasites of the genera Pseudaphycus and Allotropa. In Uzbekistan, biological control of the mealybug has been studied since 1948, when a special laboratory was opened, and it is pointed out that outbreaks of it have a cyclic character and that increases in numbers can be very sudden, owing to the high reproductive potential of the insect. In such an outbreak, recourse to insecticides is unavoidable.
