Notes: A queen sago palm (Cycas circinalis) grown in a private house in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, was killed by a large infestation of Asian cycad scale Aulacaspis yasumatsui Takagi in November 2011. The scale infestation was confined almost entirely to the roots and was not detected until ten months after the plant had been bought from a U.K. nursery. This appears to be the first record of this non-native scale insect killing an ornamental cycad in Europe. It has previously been found in the U.K. infesting cycads (Cycas sp.) at a commercial plant nursery in East Yorkshire in 2006. The biology, geographical distribution and economic importance of this pest are reviewed.
