Maksimova, V.I. 1991a [A food-trap for Synanthedon myopaeformis.]. Zashchita rastenii. Moscow No. 9: 24.
Notes: In the Stavropol' region of the USSR Synanthedon myopaeformis attacks apple trees chiefly in orchards weakened through attack by the San Jose scale (Quadraspidiotus perniciosus), creating galleries mainly in the trunk and main branches and sometimes killing the trees. An experiment in 1990 indicated that adults could be effectively caught in covered traps made of milk-product cartons and baited with molasses, apple juice and beer, catches being 2-3 times greater than in pheromone traps. Effectiveness was reduced when any of the components, and especially either of the last two, was omitted.
