Macropodi, M.V. 1985 Duration of life cycle of three parasitic Hymenoptera on Saissetia oleae (Bernard) growing on two different host plants.. Entomologia Hellenica 3(2): 63-64.
Notes: Of the three species of Metaphycus parasitizing Saissetia oleae in Corfu, a species near M. stanleyi and also M. helvolus attacked mainly the 3rd instar nymphs, and M. lounsburyi the 4th instar nymphs. The effect of the food-plant of the host on these encyrtids was studied in the laboratory with populations reared in the coccid on Nerium oleander and potato sprouts. For M. helvolus and M. lounsburyi, the duration of the life cycle was shorter (averaging 15.1 and 18.6 days, respectively) on N. oleander than on potato sprouts (19.4 and 21.3 days), while for Metaphycus sp. near M. stanleyi it was shorter on potato (18.8 days) than on N. oleander (23.4 days).
