Notes: [Atti XIV Congresso Nazionale Italiano di Entomologia sotto gli auspici dell'Accademia Nazionale Italiana di Entomologia, della Società Entomologica Italiana e della International Union of Biological Sciences. Palermo - Erice - Bagheria, 28 maggio-1 giugno 1985.] On lemon in Sicily, the diaspidid Aspidiotus nerii was found mainly on the fruits, with very small populations on shoots or leaves. Population density was similar in all weathers and on parts of the tree facing different directions. Infested fruits bearing at least 1 adult female, which had to be discarded, formed about 10% of the total crop. Of the fruits considered to be uninfested and marketable, about 16% harboured 1st-instar nymphs that had not yet caused appreciable damage; 16% infestation by newly hatched nymphs therefore constitutes the threshold for economic damage.
