Notes: [Original title: Estudio de las distribución, nivel de ataque y parasitos de las cochinillas diaspinas Chrysomphalus dictyospermi Morgan y Parlatoria pergandii Comst. en cítricos de la provincia de Castellón.] Surveys carried out in the citrus-growing region of the Spanish province of Castellon in 1975 showed that many areas were free or virtually free from infestation by Chrysomphalus dictyospermi (Morg.) and that nowhere in the region was the attack more than light to moderate. Parlatoria pergandii Comst., however, was present throughout the region and attacks were rated moderate to very heavy over more than half the region. Aphytis chrysomphali (Merc.) was the only parasite of C. dictyopsermi found during the survey; P. pergandii was parasitised by A. hispanicus (Merc.) and by Prospaltella inquirenda Silv., a species not previously recorded from Spain. C. dictyospermi was formerly the more important of the two species in this region, but it is relatively easily controlled by chemical treatments, and the carob trees [Ceratonia siliqua] that were a major reservoir of infestation are now less widely grown there. The increase in populations of Parlatoria is attributed in part to the reduction of parasite populations as a result of indiscriminate chemical treatments and also to the difficulties of controlling this species because of the overlapping of its generations.
